How to Make Bharwa Parwal Recipe in Microwave oven

This is an interesting dish of stuffed snake gourd. Stuffed with onions, vegetables and spices.

Preparation Time: 10 - 15 mins  

Serves: 4


Ingredients (large-bt)


400 gms – parwal (snake gourd), peeled, cut into 2” long pieces, slit and deseeded 

1 tsp – cumin seeds, roasted 

1 tbsp – coriander seeds, roasted 

1 tsp – fennel seeds, roasted 

1 tbsp – desiccated coconut roasted 

1 ½ tsp – amchoor powder 

1 tsp – Kashmiri chilli powder 

1 tsp – turmeric powder 

¼ tsp – asafoetida 

2 nos. – medium sized potatoes, boiled and mashed 

1 tbsp – oil 

½ tsp – cumin seeds 

3 nos. – medium sized onions, finely chopped 

To taste salt


Method (large-bt)


1) Combine the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, fennel seeds and desiccated coconut and grind to a fine powder.


2) Mix in the amchoor powder, Kashmiri red chilli powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt.


3) Mix well and smear half of the masala on the inside of the deseeded parwals.


4) Mix the remaining masala into the mashed potatoes and stuff this into the parwals.


5) In a casserole, add oil and microwave on medium power for 5 seconds. Mix in the cumin seeds and onions and microwave on high power for 3 minutes.


6) Toss in the prepared parwal pieces, cover and microwave on high power for 15 minutes, pausing and stirring after every 5 minutes. Mix in the salt and microwave for 30 seconds.


7) Leave to stand for 5 minutes before serving.
